Rhododendron canescens known as wild or mountain azalea, or southern pinxter flower generally blooms in early spring to early summer. It is the most common native azalea in the southeast. The flowers are typically various shades of pink and highly fragrant. Likes sun to part shade. The plant is easily grown in moist, humusy, well drained acidic soil. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, bumblebees and birds.
