Rhododendron arborescens known as sweet or smooth azalea, generally blooms in late spring and early summer. They are named sweet azalea after their sweet-scented flowers. The flowers range in color from white to pink with red stamens. Their leaves can also become deep red to purple in the fall. This plant, indigenous to the United States, is generally found growing near moist areas or streams. The plant is easily grown in moist, humusy, well drained acidic soil. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and birds.
