Fried Whiting

A simple way to use the local wild caught whiting available at Market2Go. Pair with a side of mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, peas, or a salad. Please consider leaving a picture or comment if you decide to try this recipe!

3 pounds Whiting fillets      View Available Products
1 cup Cornmeal      View Available Products
2 tablespoons Flour      View Available Products
2 teaspoons Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
Oil for frying      View Available Products
Mashed potatoes for serving
Or corn
Or green beans      View Available Products
Or peas      View Available Products
Or a salad      View Available Products

Step by Step Instructions
  1. Wash the whiting in vinegar then rinse it under cold water and pat dry. Sprinkle it with salt and pepper and set aside in the fridge.
  2. In a bowl, combine the corn meal, flour, pepper, cayenne pepper, salt and garlic powder.
  3. Heat the oil in a large skillet on the stove. Coat both sides of the whiting fillets with the flour mixture and fry them in the oil for about 5 minutes per side. Pairs well with mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, peas, or a salad.
