Slow-Cooker Turkey Chili

A healthy chili recipe that uses local meat and vegetables. Please consider leaving a picture or comment if you decide to try this recipe!

1 tablespoon Olive oil      View Available Products
1 Onion (finely chopped)      View Available Products
1 Bell pepper (chopped)      View Available Products
1 1/2 pounds Ground turkey      View Available Products
Salt & Pepper to taste
2 cloves Garlic (minced)      View Available Products
2 tablespoons Tomato paste
28 ounces Chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)      View Available Products
15 ounces Black beans
15 ounces Kidney beans
1 1/2 cups Chicken broth
2 teaspoons Chili powder
1 teaspoon Ground cumin
1 teaspoon Dried oregano (homemade or store bought)      View Available Products
Cheese for topping (optional)

Step by Step Instructions
  1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Then add the onion and pepper. Add the ground turkey and cook it to desired doneness. Season the turkey with salt and pepper, and stir in the garlic and tomato paste. Cook the mixture for about 2 minutes and add it to the slow cooker.
  2. Add tomatoes, black beans, kidney beans, chicken broth, chili powder, cumin and oregano to the slow cooker. Cook on high for 4 hours. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Serve and top with cheese, onion, and/or peppers if desired. Serve with bread if desired.
