Pecan and Fig Spread

This simple spread makes a great dip for crackers & toasted bread, or as a topping for ice cream! Please consider leaving a picture or comment if you decide to try this recipe!

2 1/2 pounds Figs      View Available Products
1 pound Sugar
1/4 cup Water
2 cups Pecan pieces (toasted)      View Available Products
Juice & zest from 2 lemons
Zest from 1 orange
1 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Pepper
Crackers for serving (if desired)
Sliced & toasted bread for serving (if desired)      View Available Products
OR ice cream for serving (if desired)      View Available Products

Step by Step Instructions
  1. Place the figs, sugar, and water in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  2. Add the pecans and simmer for 3 minutes. Add both kinds of zest and simmer for 1 more minute. Turn off the heat and add the lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour the spread onto a tray and refrigerate to cool. Store in jars in the fridge. Use as a dip for crackers & toasted bread, or as a topping for ice cream.
