Almond Berry Coffee Cake

This cake is AMAZING. With that said what makes it so amazing is its moist, streusely, seasonal berry goodness. Since the blackberries have been so incredible this season from Jacobs Produce, I decided to share this recipe in lieu of the ending season. However, any in season berry will work just fine. Here we come blueberries!

Bamia - Okra Stew with Lamb

Buttermilk-Lady Pea Soup with Bacon

This recipe from Southern Living calls for Lady peas, but other field peas like Sadandy, pink-eye, and zipper peas can be substituted.

Classic Salmon Patties

This is the recipe for salmon patties that I grew up with. You can add your own variations, such as herbs, chives, or minced vegetables to it as well. Use your own preference of oil to cook with, like butter or olive oil. If you don’t have the salmon burger meat, you can shred a filet.

Also, you can use gluten-free Bisquick instead of flour, and it comes out the same.

Classic Southern Cornbread

Classic Southern Cornbread is best made with a cast iron skillet. Let the skillet warm up in the oven and melt some butter in it so that a nice crust will form. Some versions of this recipe use bacon drippings instead of or in addition to the butter. Adjust the amount of buttermilk to make a thick batter.
You can also use self-rising cornmeal and omit the baking powder and soda.

French Toast & Market Breakfast

French toast – serve with fruit, bacon or sausage, grits, and coffee – all available from Market2Go and/or the Saturday Main Street Market.

Tips & Notes
This dish is a great way to use up bread that’s beginning to go stale.

The recipe can be found in the Apicius, a collection of recipes dating back to Imperial Roman times, where it is described as aliter dulcia (another sweet dish). The recipe says to slice bread, crust removed, and break it into large pieces. Soak these pieces in milk and beaten egg, fry in oil, and cover with honey before serving.

Fresh Corn Cakes

This is a wonderful way to use the fresh corn coming in as a different side dish/bread/vegetable.
